The new Amundsen marks the entry into the Westfalia class [10.08.2012]
At this year’s Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf from 25 August to 2 September 2012, visitors will find several highlights on the Westfalia stand. At the largest mobile leisure time trade fair in Europe, this venerable company will not only present the Club Joker based on the VW T5 and the two new Columbus long floor plans based on the Fiat Ducato, but also the new Westfalia Amundsen, a box van that redefines the entry level into the Westfalia class.
In 1951, when Westfalia built the first motor home with the compass rose symbol for a British officer stationed in Germany, the task was clear: we wanted to create a practical vehicle suitable for daily use as well as for holiday and leisure time. Our engineers met this requirement more than 60 years ago with the SO23, which also formed the basis for the development of the new Westfalia Amundsen resulting in two models that are 5.40 and 6.00 metres in length. These vehicles not only meet day-to-day as well as holiday requirements but also set the standard thanks to their attractive prices.
The two have one thing in common: the Fiat Ducato chassis. The 540D is based on the short wheelbase whereas the 600D is built on the medium wheelbase. The compact 540D is the ideal vehicle for big cities and narrow parking lots. Like the 600D, the 540D is equipped with a rear double bed that can be folded up to form a bicycle storage compartment. The centre of the vehicle features a kitchen and a spacious bathroom. The front seating arrangement comprises driver and co-driver seats that can easily be converted into an additional bed. The seat bench is equipped with two 3-point safety belts so four passengers can travel in safety.
The on-board technology in the two Amundsen models will win you over. The big 80-litre refrigerator and the fresh and waste water tanks at 90 litres each provide generous reserves, while the powerful Truma Combi 4 gas heating system ensures the vehicle can be heated quickly and quietly. The kitchen is equipped with a 2-burner cooker with piezo technology. The design and manufacturing feature the high quality typical of Westfalia. The counter tops and flaps are made of abrasion-proof HPL laminate.
Prices for the 540D start at 44,990 euros, and from the autumn the 600D will be available from 45,990 euros at our specialised dealers.
